Recently, an updated version of the Wireless Light Tube has been released, with several new functionalities, including the Interrupt button. This enables the EMDR Kit to align with new developments such as EMDR 2.0.
But what exactly is the Interrupt button? And what can you do with it?
The Interrupt button is a button that appears next to the Start button in the EMDR Kit app when you are connected to the new Wireless EMDR Kit Light Tube. When the button is pressed, the Light Tube lights up briefly. The purpose of this is to keep clients focused on the task of following the light, for example when the client loses attention or wanders off.
In addition, the Interrupt button can also be used for additional working memory load. And because something unexpected happens, there is also a slight startle reaction, also known as disruption by surprise. These startle effects are intended to destabilize the target memory and to increase the possibility of updated storage of the memory in a new form in terms of content and meaning (reconsolidation) (Steven Meijer and Ad de Jongh).
In addition to the visual effect of the interrupt button, the corresponding headphones can also be used. When the Interrupt button is pressed, a random sound such as a bird, laser or bicycle bell is played in addition to the visual effect. These sounds can also create extra working memory load and also provide an unexpected, (sometimes humorous) startle effect.
The Interrupt button offers therapists new possibilities during EMDR therapy. We are very enthusiastic about this new functionality and recommend trying out the Light Tube with the Interrupt button. Would you like more information about the renewed Wireless EMDR Kit Light Tube? Please contact us!
